From outdoor concerts, to a Rose Garden, to an outdoor movie, you’ll find tons of things to do in San Jose, CA in the summer. 

 

 

 

1. Municipal Rose Garden

This San Jose garden spans more than 5 acres with nearly 200 different varieties of roses and more than 3,500 separate plants. In fact, the Municipal Rose Garden is recognized as one of the best rose gardens in America. Summer is the perfect time to relax by the fountain and see all the colorful flowers in bloom, and it’s only about 3 miles from Santa Clara.

The Municipal Rose Garden is located at 1649 Naglee Ave, with Dana Ave as the nearest cross street. It’s free to enter, and you can visit seven days a week between 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after sunset. The garden, which is also one of the city’s historic landmarks, has restrooms, a picnic area, and street parking.

2. Campbell Summer Concert Series

You can enjoy free live music just 6 miles from San Jose at the Orchard City Green in Campbell. Upcoming performances for the rest of the summer include The Hill Street Band with classic rock and dance music on July 20, dance and classic rock from Daze on the Green on July 27, pop and rock from Houserockers on July 31, and music from Maneck on August 3. All shows take place at 6:30 p.m., except for the July 31 event which starts at 7 p.m.

Bring your own blanket or lawn chair and enjoy refreshments from Kona Ice, with proceeds from beverage and food purchases benefiting the Campbell Museum Foundation. The Orchard City Green is located at 70 N 1st St, next to Campbell City Hall and near the historic Ainsley House.

3. Central Park

The big one might be on the East Coast, but Santa Clara has its own 52-acre Central Park. You can spend a day here picnicking, paying tribute to fallen heroes at the veterans’ memorial, playing tennis or basketball, or visiting the playground with little ones. The park has an exercise course, lawn bowling, a lake, open fields, and lighted softball fields. If it’s a rainy summer day, you can browse the Central Park Library, which is located on the park grounds.

The park is located at 969 Kiely Blvd. You can visit between 6 a.m. and 30 minutes after sunset.

4. Sunset Cinema 

The City of Santa Clara Parks and Rec Department hosts outdoor family movie nights on specific Fridays from April through October. You can catch The Croods: A New Age on July 28 at Warburton Park, 2250 Royal Dr. On August 11, they’ll show Minions: The Rise of Gru at Henry Schmidt Park, 555 Los Padres Blvd. Shows are free and start at 8:15 p.m.
