Santa Clara, CA is known for many things, including the oldest university in California and Levi’s Stadium. We’re also known for having some of the best beaches in the state within easy driving distance. We’d like to tell you more about opportunities for enjoying the sun and sand near us.

Waddell Beach

Just 16 miles southwest of Santa Clara, Waddell is well-known as a small surfer’s paradise. The waves are usually always high, so a great day on your board is almost guaranteed. Kite surfing and body boarding are also very popular here. If you prefer more sedate pursuits, lying on the soft sand in the sun and listening to the gentle lapping of the waves is a relaxing way to spend the day.

If you stay until late afternoon, you can watch a picture-perfect sunset over the water. There’s plenty of parking, but you need to get there early if you want to get a slot close to the beach. Waddell is located at 3600 Highway 1, Davenport.

Greyhound Rock Beach Access

If you’re looking for a peaceful quiet beach, Greyhound Rock should be on your list. It’s a beautiful beach and doesn’t draw crowds so you’ll have plenty of peace to relax and enjoy. The beach is reached by taking a short walk down a gravel path from the large parking lot on the cliffs.

Swimming is not recommended here as there are strong currents. It’s a good spot for a picnic on the beach, or there are picnic tables near the parking lot. You can get some incredible views of seals, whales, and other marine life. A bonus is it’s dog-friendly, so the entire family can enjoy this wonderful beach. Greyhound is located at 1551 Cabrillo Highway, Davenport.

Shark Fin Cove

This cove is quiet and secluded. Its centerpiece is the fin-shaped rick that gives this place its name. Time and erosion have created the incredible sight of a realistic rocky shark fin protruding from the water. If you time your visit around high tide, you can get some great pictures as the rock serves as a natural blowhole for the waves.

The beach is a great place to get away from everything and enjoy the sun. Swimming isn’t as popular here due to the unpredictable currents. Shark Fin can be found at 1 Cabrillo Highway, Davenport.
