1. Bernal Historic Open House
When you visit the Burnal-Gulnac-Juice Ranch, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into the 19th century. The house was built in the mid-1800s and has been refurbished to what it would have looked like around 1910. From the furnishings to the farm tools, you’ll be immersed in what life was like back then for the Bernal family, who worked the fields and gardens.
The Bernal House is located at 372 Manila Dr. in San Jose, just a few miles from Santa Clara. The open house will be held on April 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
2. Mountain Bike Ride on John Nicholas Trail
Get your exercise on this 11-mile mountain bike ride guided by a park ranger. You’ll also enjoy learning interesting facts about the trail and seeing the sights, like the 40-foot-tall sandstone formation and other geographic features. The bike ride will be Thursday and Friday, April 27 and 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Make reservations and find out the exact meeting location by calling 408-497-2943.
John Nicholas Trail is located about 10 miles outside of town at 20409 Black Rd. in Los Gatos.
3. Learn to Shoot Your Handgun
Have you ever wanted to learn to shoot a handgun? Here’s a great opportunity to do just that! Learn from an expert range master at Field Sports Park, located at 9580 Malech Rd. in San Jose. Bring your gun to the park office with 50 rounds of ammunition on Wednesday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. They also have 9mm handguns to purchase. Call 408-463-0652 to make your reservation.
4. Junior Rifle Program
This program is for youth and young adults ages 10 to 20 who want to learn how to shoot a rifle. Qualified instructors will train them from the San Jose Zouaves Rifle Club. The program will be held on Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in San Jose at Field Sports Park; 9580 Malech Rd. Please note that consent forms must be signed by a parent or guardian.
