Due to the excellent year-round mild weather here in sunny Santa Clara, CA, options can be limited for those who want to experience activities only offered by parts of the country with real winter weather. Fortunately, there are plenty of fun winter activities in and around Santa Clara that you can visit and still experience those activities. Whether you’re looking to go ice skating, festivals or just looking to explore the beauty of the Bay Area in the winter, you’re sure to find something to enjoy near Santa Clara.

Ice Skating at Sharks Ice

If you’re in the mood for some ice skating on a cold winter day, you can head to Sharks Ice at 1500 S 10th St, San Jose. You don’t need to be a pro skater to enjoy the fun at Sharks Ice. They have free skating lessons for kids, as well as public skating sessions, so anyone can enjoy the thrill of gliding across the ice.

With ample free parking and private party rooms, you can make this a great family outing or a date night. There are two rinks at Sharks Ice, one for adults 18 and older and one for kids aged 4–17. The kids’ rink is open from 10 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays and from 10 am to 10 pm on weekdays.

Hiking at Stevens Creek County Park

If you’re interested in an outdoor activity but don’t want to deal with the mud that’s likely at many of the nearby parks, you can head to Stevens Creek County Park to take advantage of its well-maintained trails. The mild winter temperatures here in the Bay Area also make it an excellent time of year to hike without breaking too much of a sweat. This park is open from sunrise to sunset, so make sure to plan your visit for a time when you won’t be out after dark. Stevens Creek County Park is located at 11401 Stevens Canyon Rd, Cupertino.

The Great Mall of Milpitas

The Great Mall of Milpitas hosts a variety of seasonal events and festivals throughout the year, including a WinterFest that’s sure to liven up a winter visit to near Santa Clara. The WinterFest at the Great Mall of Milpitas includes everything from ice skating to live music and even a visit from Santa Claus. While this is not something available this time of winter, we thought it was noteworthy enough to make this list as something to hit up next Christmas.
