If you’re looking for a punchy, playful crossover that can get muddy with the best of them, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is a fantastic choice. But which trim level is right for you? As one of the most popular SUVs in the Subaru lineup, the Crosstrek has a lot to offer drivers in the Bay Area.

Base Trim

The Base model features a 2.0-Liter DOHC Boxer engine, offering 152 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 145 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM. The drivetrain is also impressive, offering symmetrical All Wheel Drive, four-wheel independent raised suspension, disc brakes for all four wheels, and technological enhancements like Vehicle Dynamics Control, Active Torque Vectoring, and X-Mode. It’s also fuel-efficient, at 34/27 mpg highway/city, with an impressive 16.6 gallon fuel tank for extended driving range.

Safety also comes standard in the 2024 Crosstrek. The NHTSA has graced the car with 5-star crash ratings in all frontal and side crash tests. But the best crash is the one you never get into, and the Crosstrek comes equipped with the Eyesight Driver Assist Technology, which uses multiple cameras to monitor traffic movement, watch out for lane departures, and ensure safe following distances when cruise control is engaged.

Premium

The Premium trim introduces an 8-speed manual mode to the CVT transmission for increased control and fun. The inside also gets an upgrade, featuring keyless access and push-button start, USB-C ports, and 6 speakers (up from 4).

Sport

The Sport trim offers the same upgraded transmission package as the Premium model, and is the first trim to sport the excellent 2.5-liter Boxer engine. The upgraded power plant puts out 182 hp at 5,800 RPM, alongside 178 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 RPM. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels are also standard, up from the 17-inch wheels included on Base and Premium, with upgraded tires.

Limited

If you’re looking for the perfect balance of beefy performance and well-appointed interior, the Limited trim may be your perfect fit. It combines the upgraded paddle-shifter transmission, 2.5-liter engine, and 18-inch alloy wheels from the Sport trim, while adding standard leather-trimmed upholstery for a beautiful and comfortable driving experience.

Wilderness

If you’re buying a car specifically for off-road adventuring, the Wilderness trim is definitely for you. In addition to the hefty 2.5-liter Boxer DOHC engine, the Wilderness trim features several upgrades that make it an off-road beast.

A raised clearance of 9.3 inches (up from 8.7 inches), along with a standard front skid plate and redesigned bumpers, combine to help improve approach and departure angles when going over uneven or obstacle-laden trails. The transmission and suspension have also been beefed-up, with a stronger rear differential and a lower final-drive ratio for more power on rough terrain. Even the interior of the Wilderness trim has been rethought with muddy adventures in mind, with water-repellent StarTex upholstery making cleanup a breeze.
